Maintenance dredging at the Colorado River Jetties is virtually an annual affair. Around the time the jetties were built, a diversion channel to direct the river flow into Matagorda Bay was built. With little flow, the jetty entrance shoals quickly. Until the USCOE comes up with a solution, this path to the Gulf should only be used with the most recent and reliable local knowledge. Even then, be very careful with more than outboard-motor draft.
